More strongly contaminated, pneumatically transportable wastes are deposited in dome-shaped mining caverns. They are conditioned to slurry consistency and are pumped into the mining caverns. Suitable waste types are:
- filter dusts and solid flue gas treatment residues from waste incineration plants or
- incinerated clearing sludges.
Underground-reutilisation facility Unterbreizbach
Reutilisation process
- Initially, all wastes are pneumatically transshipped in stationary silos, and are then transported to below-ground silos by a pneumatic conveyor.
- At the backfill paste production plant a patented process is used to create a suspension, called high-consistency slurry, by mixing the wastes with brine.
- After hydraulic transport to the caverns the high-consistency slurry hardens without emitting liquids.
